Dr. Heta Patel was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. She completed her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and earned a degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience. During that time she helped conduct research on the visual system and brain function at the Krekelberg Neuroscience Laboratory. Dr. Patel then obtained her Doctorate of Optometry at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. She then went on to complete a residency in primary care and ocular disease at the Veterans Affairs NJ Healthcare System in 2020. There, she gained experience treating a primarily geriatric population with extensive pathology, performed low vision exams, and acted as an attending for 4th year optometry students.
Dr. Patel is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry and a member of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians.
Dr. Patel's current focus is in primary eye care. However, in addition to conducting routine exams and contact lens fittings, she also treats glaucoma, manages patients with diabetes, and treats ocular surface disease. Although Dr. Patel has extensive experience in treating older patients, she is also passionate about myopia control treatment for children. She is currently accepting new patients aged 6 and up.
